Regarded as one of the most sophisticated and controversial photographers of modern times, Henson is a true master of photography. Captivated by the essence of Twilight, his work is often a balance of the sublime colours of sunset and the darkness of the night. His 2008 show at the Roslyn Oxley 9 Gallery in Australia caused outrage as Henson featured underage nude models. After several complaints the show was postponed and yet the case was never taken to court. The former director of the National Gallery of Australia Betty Churcher was quoted as saying “the court is not the place to discuss matters of art”

Though I sympathise with the concern raised, I also see the true beauty within Henson’s work. The nude children represent a beautiful, youthful innocence and when placed next to the euphoric landscapes Henson also captures, a timeless beauty is created. The essence of tranquility with an undeniable underlying theme of metaporphosis is just as powerful a juxtaposition as that between the human and natural world.

bjork: crystalline.

In an age when so much has been achieved scientifically and artistically, it is often the opinion that nothing new can be achieved. It is because of this I am filled with joy and promise while watching and listening to this simple and yet complex piece of work by bjork. Ive called it a piece rather than a song or a music video because it really is so much more than that.

After so much experientation within music and the arts, bjork has still manage to create a piece which is experimental and challanging yet still familiar.

The ‘music video’ nowadays seems almost an after thought and is often used as a means to publicise sponsors. The video for crystalline does no such thing, and instead aids the viewer/listener to fall helplessly into bjorks world.

I can’t wait to see what else bjork has in store and the impact this new work of hers has on the rest of the creative industry as a whole.
